WeCare – Mental Wellness & Caregiver

WeCare was developed as part of a larger community-driven initiative by the Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB) to support Korean and Chinese immigrant caregivers experiencing situational stress, emotional burnout, and compassion fatigue while caring for elderly family members with dementia.

The platform was specifically designed for limited English proficient (LEP) caregivers who often face barriers in accessing mental health support, educational resources, caregiver services, and community assistance.

The ecosystem includes native mobile applications for Android and iOS along with an administrative management portal for managing application content, wellness resources, notifications, and platform configurations.

The application serves as a digital wellness companion that helps caregivers build healthier routines, improve self-awareness, access nearby support resources, and engage in personalized stress reduction activities.

The Challenge

Caregivers supporting dementia patients often experience high levels of emotional stress, social isolation, burnout, and mental fatigue.

For immigrant caregivers with limited English proficiency, accessing healthcare guidance, mental wellness resources, and caregiver support systems becomes significantly more difficult.

Our Solution

WeCare was designed as a personalized caregiver wellness platform combining behavioral support tools, wellness engagement workflows, educational content, progress tracking, and resource accessibility into a single mobile experience.

The application helps caregivers actively monitor their emotional well-being while guiding them through structured stress reduction activities and self-care routines.

The platform was built around three primary support domains:

1. Signs & Symptoms Awareness

Providing educational information and awareness tools to help users better understand caregiver burnout, emotional stress, and compassion fatigue.

2. Motivational Guidance

Delivering inspirational messages, stories, songs, poetry, and self-care suggestions designed to encourage emotional resilience and normalize caregiver stress.

3. Resource Sharing

Providing users with access to caregiver support resources, behavioral health services, caregiver education, and localized community assistance programs.

The onboarding experience includes caregiver wellness assessments to understand emotional burden levels and establish personalized support journeys.

Caregiver Self-Assessment Surveys

Users complete in-app caregiver burden assessments during enrollment and periodically thereafter to monitor emotional well-being and stress levels.

Personalized Wellness Planning

The application generates individualized stress reduction plans based on selected pleasant activities and preferred wellness routines.

Pleasant Event Recommendations

The system recommends meaningful wellness activities that users can incorporate into their weekly emotional wellness plans.

WeCare automatically creates structured weekly wellness schedules focused on stress reduction and emotional balance.

Daily Reminder Notifications

The platform schedules reminder notifications to encourage users to follow their wellness plans and maintain healthy routines.

The system follows a minimal notification approach and ensures that users never receive more than one notification per day.

Daily Mood Tracking

Users receive daily mood questionnaires to help track emotional progress and improve self-awareness regarding burnout and stress.

Progress & Trend Monitoring

Motivational & Educational Content
